Getting the body you’ve always craved isn’t going to happen overnight. It takes a lot of sweat, blood and protein powder to make some serious gains. Is it any wonder that many gym goers turns to steroids like Winstrol for an extra boost? After all, “desperate times call for desperate measures.”
But what if those “desperate measures” have serious health consequences? And Winstrol is capable of kicking your good health right in the gonads.
WHAT IS WINSTROL?
Winstrol (or stanozolol for the science buffs amongst you) is derived from dihydrotestosterone, an androgen sex steroid. It was first patented in the US in 1962, and is no longer marketed in America. However, it’s still extremely popular amongst bodybuilders, and is widely available as an oral and injectable steroid.
Unlike most anabolic steroids on the market, Winstrol’s popularity extends beyond the bodybuilding community. Due to its performance enhancing qualities, it’s also a favorite amongst track, field and strength athletes. It’s used to prevent muscle wastage and improve endurance, as well as to promote lean-muscle building. Because it’s not that effective for bulking, Winstrol is often stacked with other anabolic steroids when used by bodybuilders.
Winstrol is still marketed in some countries, and is prescribed for anaemia and angioedema\. For medical uses, the oral dosage is 2 mg three times a day, and the injectable steroid dosage is 50 mg every 2-3 weeks. When used illicitly by bodybuilders, these doses get jacked up considerably. It’s not uncommon for bodybuilders to take doses of 50-100 mg daily, regardless of whether the oral or injectable Winstrol is being used. At these high doses, it’s no surprise that bodybuilders are much more likely to suffer the crappy consequences.
Let’s take a look at five of the most severe side effects from Winstrol:
1. Liver damage
C17AA may seem like some sort of mystic code, but I’ve left it like that for a reason. It’s a term you might recognize from learning about some of the other steroids we’ve discussed. It stands for C-17 alpha alkylated. This is a process the steroid is put through to make it resistant to breakdown in the liver, meaning it can pass through your system twice. It doesn’t take a lot of common sense to see that this isn’t ideal because of the excess stress it places on the liver. Taking the steroid via injections doesn’t eliminate the problem either. Even through the injectable version doesn’t enter your system via the liver it’s still broken down by it. It may not cause as much trauma, but damage is damage. It’s your liver we’re talking about – you can’t just go out and buy a replacement.
2. Virilization – the development of male characteristics
Winstrol isn’t great for female users, especially in its injectable form. The dosage is simply too high. Even though it can be classed as only moderately androgenic, virilization – or, in plain English, the development of male characteristics – is a real possibility. This can lead to your uterus shrinking, your clitoris enlarging, your breasts becoming smaller, and you might as well wave goodbye to your period, too.
3. Unbalanced cholesterol levels
A quick biology lesson. Cholesterol is carried in the blood by lipoproteins. We have two kinds of lipoproteins. These are high-density (HDL) and low-density (LDL). HDL are the good guys and are more protective in nature, whereas LDL are seen as the bad guys because too much is unhealthy.
Surprise, surprise – Winstrol reduces the amount of the good stuff (HDL) and increases the amount of the bad stuff (LDL). This can be very bad for your heart. It’s more common when taking Winstrol orally, but injecting it also increases LDL. This is perhaps one of the most dangerous side effects.
4. Low levels of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG)
“Ohhhhh, a new thing!” I hear you say. Absolutely! SHBG is a glycoprotein that carries sex hormones such as estrogen, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), and testosterone. Unfortunately, Winstrol can lower levels of SHBG, and this results in less testosterone getting carried around the body. This particularly effects men, but remember that women need testosterone as well – just in smaller quantities. If it can’t get to where it needs to be to complete the job, it can’t and won’t work.
5. The chance of “dodgy gear”
The popularity of Winstrol makes it a moneymaking dream for dealers. This in turn results in more counterfeit versions on the streets. A quick YouTube search will show you videos from underground labs. You know, the ones that “cook” your drugs in a microwave, using non-sterile equipment over and over again to save money. The health consequences of poorly made steroids can be really dangerous. What if they get the dosage wrong and you end up injecting 100 times the recommended dose? Your liver won’t thank you for it.
Steroids such as Winstrol are a threat to your health. But you still want to bulk up and get ripped. Cleaner, safer, legal, and more cost-effective alternatives such as Winsol are the answer you’re looking for.
Having a dream is fine. Having a vision for the future is fine. In fact, it’s more than fine – it’s healthy. What I struggle to get my head around is the massive risk to your health for the sake of an extra 10 lbs of muscle. Stay smart and keep on track to achieve your dreams by using natural alternatives.
